According to the decision of the United Nations, April 11 is celebrated all over the world as the International Day for the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps. It commemorates of the international uprising in Buchenwald.

It was on this day in 1945 that the prisoners of Buchenwaldin, led by the International Political Center, started an armed uprising, as a result of which they captured the camp and held it until the arrival of the Allied troops.
