On April 26, 1986, the world was divided into “before” and “after.” The Chernobyl disaster—the largest man-made catastrophe of the 20th century—continues to cause pain to this day.
The Faculty of Preschool and Primary Education held a commemorative event marking the 40th anniversary of the tragedy. Students and faculty discussed not only the chronology of events and the heroism of the liquidators, but also the lessons humanity has learned from this catastrophe.
The hosts recounted the sequence of events: the fateful night of the explosion, the heroism of the firefighters and plant workers who were the first to face the radiation, as well as the colossal scale of the decontamination efforts, in which hundreds of thousands of Soviet citizens participated. Footage from documentary archives was shown in the hall, vividly illustrating the consequences of the disaster for the environment and human health.
Such events foster a sense of responsibility for peace and safety, serving as a reminder of the cost of human error and true heroism.
Eternal memory to the victims of Chernobyl! Eternal glory to the liquidators!
