On January 30, 2019 Ivan Shamyakin, a national writer of Belarus, a laureate of state literature prizes of USSR and the Republic of Belarus, Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, a canonical writer, whose name MSPU bears, is celebrating his 98th birthday.
The creativity of Ivan Shamyakin was highly praised all over the world, because the acts of bravery which were achieved by the Belarusian people in peaceful time as well as in the war period were treated like great. His writings “Deep stream”, “When life is good”, “Sources”, “Atlantes and Caryatides”, “Zenith” were devoted to topical issues in the society i.e necessity to keep memory of war, patriotic and moral-aesthetic education of children, responsible attitude to your work, mercy and honesty.
The writer connected the future of the country with the prosperity of young generations. While creating his artistic texts and addressing them to young people he was developing his active civil position, culture of poetry making, vivid and concerned participation in creative process. Educational potential of the artistic heritage of Ivan Shamyakin hasn’t been depleted. Modern readers were deeply involved into the artistic world of his writings, because the author paid attention to the fate of a person as well as the fate of the nation (“Sources”, “A heart in the hand”, “I will take your pain”, “Angry star”, “Madonna from the Polessie”, “Penitence”, etc.
Creativity of Ivan Shamyakin became the object for investigation among the teachers and students of Mozyr State Pedagogical University. Thus, Galina Dashkevich defended a PhD thesis on the topic “Problematic field of Ivan Shamyakin’s novelistic creativity”. Course papers, Diploma papers and other research projects have been conducting at the premises of MSPU named after I.P.Shamyakin. Since 2009 the representatives of the Chair of Literature at MSPU named after I.P.Shamyakin have been arranging the International Shamyakin’s Readings “Writer – Person – Time” where the leading scientists – linguists are welcomed to participate.
MSPU teachers and students systematize and analyze the data devoted to the life and creativity of the writer; they develop lesson maps and outer class activities on the topics which are closely connected with the creativity of Ivan Shamyakin. Numerous creative performances, quizzes, brain-storm activities which are devoted to various aspects of life and writing of Ivan Shamyakin who has a status of a canonical writer are conducted at the premises of the University every year.
Thus, the name of Ivan Shamyakin, his creativity, social and teaching activity is still treated as a navigator for young people these days.
