On April 02, 1997 Belarus and Russia signed the Agreement of Unity. The main objective were proclaimed as followed: enhancement of social standards of living, development of social networking, friendship and mutual cooperation between the countries in political, economic and social fields.

On December 25, 1998 “Declaration of Further Unity of the Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation” was signed; it became the main stage of establishing and development of unity relations. According to the subjects the two Presidents determined to continue phase-gate movement to freewill unity upon condition of national sovereignty.

On December 08, 1999 the Agreement of Common State Formation and the Action Programme on implementation of agreement terms were signed; these documents helped to determine the aim of integration.

Since January 01, 2010 the Customs Union (among The Republic of Belarus, Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakstan) has been functioning.

Today basic directions of Unity State have been identified as cooperation in the sphere of politics, forming of common economic space, cooperation in the military technical and security sphere, hydrometeorology and environment contamination monitoring, grant of equal rights and cooperation in the social sphere, creation of common information space.

Thus, the Unity State is important for both the Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation. The agreement of unity is a guarantor of security and stability. Both the Belarusians and the Russians celebrate this event every single year on April 02.
