University Saturdays: Youth. Science. Innovations

On April 16, 2016 university campaign “Youth. Science. Innovations: Belarus and Foreign Countries” was held at the premises of MSPU named after I.P.Shamyakin. It was organized with support from Science and Research Center, Department of Information Technologies and Innovative Activities and International Affairs Department. Pupils from forms 8, 9, 10, 11 (more than 120 guests) visited our university and took part in all out-of-class activities.

On April 16, 2016 university campaign “Youth. Science. Innovations: Belarus and Foreign Countries” was held at the premises of MSPU named after I.P.Shamyakin. It was organized with support from Science and Research Center, Department of Information Technologies and Innovative Activities and International Affairs Department. Pupils from forms 8, 9, 10, 11 (more than 120 guests) visited our university and took part in all out-of-class activities. 

Before the opening ceremony Raisa Holmyakova, representative of History Chair, provided a tour around MSPU ethno-cultural center. She told about stages of development and the main milestones.

Then Eduard Grechannikov, Chief of Science and Research Center, welcomed the guests and spoke on achievements and wonderful opportunities available for students and those who were ready to delve the world of modern science.

Mikhail Krykala, Chief of Information Technologies and Innovative Activities Department, reported on safe work on the Internet.

Pupils were amazed by Laboratory of Optics, Electricity and Magnetism. Prof. Kulak conducted the experiments which were not included in the school course of Physics studies.

Oleg Brel, Head teacher, Chair of History, told about the principal direction of Science and Research Laboratory “Historic Reenactment”.

Marina Karlova, Specialist in International Affairs, organized and held a knowledge-based tournament “Our Game”.

During the registration all the guests were interviewed. Here are some results presented:

1.What are the main factors for you to enter the university?

  • First place of work provided the State– 95%
  • tuition-free education– 92%
  • eventful student life – 86%
  • major subjects I am interested in – 83%
  • scholarship programs and grants– 78%
  • affordable training fee– 70%

2.What skills and experience would you like to obtain while studying at the University?

  • Get acquainted how to search and find essential information –  89%
  • Participate in research projects – 72%
  • Get additional degree – 69%
  • serve internship abroad– 75%

3.Do you know that MSPU students have a wide range of possibilities to go on further study?

  • Get additional degree – 83%
  • Get Master’s degree (and also abroad)– 55%
  • Get PhD degree (and also abroad)– 42%

The questionnaire showed that school leavers didn’t know enough about opportunities and profits provided. Thus, holding of University Saturday campaigns are of great importance and value!
