On February 15 the Memory day of Peacekeeping soldiers has been annually marked in the Republic of Belarus since March 26, 1998 and in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157.

More than 30.000 Belarusian citizens were serving in Afghanistan from 1979 till 1989. After the war 772 young soldiers were killed in the battle. 12 soldiers have been still treated as gone missing. 718 soldiers became disabled, all other soldiers became mentally non-stable.

More than 400 Mozyr city-dwellers participated in the war in Afghanistan. 12 soldiers died.

On February 15, 2018 Vasily Budkovsky, Deputy-Dean for Educational Affairs, and Natalia Nichiporko, Head Teacher, Chair of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education, the representatives of MSPU Youth Office hold a meeting where Mozyr peacekeeping soldiers and the members of Mozyr Local Organization “Belarusian Army Officers’ Union” were invited. The students got a lucky chance to talk to the officers and got involved into the events of the past.

Fighting has a tendency to stop but the history is everlasting. The war in Afghanistan is over but it is still alive in the hearts of the soldiers and their mothers. We, as the representatives of younger generations, ought to keep the memory of our ancestors!
